We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join a growing commercial organisation based in Tauranga.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role is ideal for someone with 3+ years’ Big 4 experience who is ready to step into a hands‑on commercial position with real impact.
Role Purpose
The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company’s financial reporting. You will support the Financial Controller by delivering timely month‑end results, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring adherence to NZ accounting standards and tax requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
Complete month‑end journals, accruals, and prepayments
Perform balance sheet reconciliations
Assist with annual statutory accounts
Support the annual audit and liaise with external auditors
Compliance & Tax
Prepare and file GST, FBT, and other tax returns
Support income tax calculations and work with external tax advisors
Ensure compliance with NZ IFRS
Maintain statutory records and regulatory reporting
General Ledger & Controls
Maintain integrity of the general ledger
Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations
Oversee fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
Review and maintain internal controls and financial policies
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline reporting and processes
Support ERP/system enhancements
Assist with automation initiatives
Stakeholder Support
Provide financial insights to internal stakeholders
Support the Financial Controller with ad‑hoc reporting and projects
Assist operational teams with financial queries
Skills & Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline (or similar)
CA/CPA qualified or working toward qualification
Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience, ideally including Big 4
Strong knowledge of NZ accounting standards and tax requirements
Experience with ERP systems and strong Excel capability
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Confident communicator able to explain financial information clearly
