Automotive Technician - ANTARCTICA

We have a very COOL opportunity available for experienced AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIANS, in Antarctica.
Hays Recruitment is seeking expressions of interest from an AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIANS, to join the maintenance team at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. This unique opportunity involves working in one of the most remote and challenging environments on Earth.

Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 200-300 residents in winter season)
Rate: $50 per hour
A minimum 6-month deployment must be available to deploy from late Jan/early Feb 2026. Please note this is not a FIFO role, you will be on the ice for the full 6 months.

You MUST have the following:
  • LIGHT vehicle mechanic experience on a broad range of vehicles, specifically Ford
  • NZ Certificate in Automotive Engineering at Level 4 (OR Overseas Equivalent)
  • NZ Work Rights (no sponsorship or visa variations available)

What to expect when you’re down there:
  • Accommodation provided (you will be in a bunkroom)
  • Free food (the meals aren’t Michelin starred, but they’re still pretty good)
  • Free flights from any major NZ airport
  • $50 per hour
  • Work schedule: Mon – Sat, 7am – 5pm (1 hr lunch break)

  • Vaccinations (flu and TDAP compulsory)
