Senior Data Engineer

6-month contract- Based in either Auckland or Wellington

They are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable data platforms that enable advanced analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making across complex enterprise environments. This role is suited to someone who is technically strong, comfortable working across modern cloud data ecosystems, and confident collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be responsible for developing robust, secure, and high-performing data pipelines and platforms, supporting both operational and strategic use cases. Working closely with data, analytics, and application teams, you will translate business needs into reliable data solutions while promoting best practices in engineering, governance, and automation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data platforms using modern cloud-based technologies
  • Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and curate data from multiple sources
  • Implement engineering-focused use cases using Databricks, including Spark-based data processing
  • Leverage Azure data and integration services, including Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and related tooling
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, security, and governance across the data lifecycle
  • Enable analytics and insights through Power BI and/or Databricks AI/BI

  • Strong experience operating as a senior-level data engineer in complex, enterprise-scale environments
  • Proven hands-on experience with Databricks for data engineering use cases
  • Solid experience with Azure data and integration services, including Functions, Logic Apps, and broader Azure tooling
  • Experience delivering insights via Power BI and/or Databricks AI/BI
  • Deep understanding of data architecture, data lakes, data warehousing, and big data processing frameworks

Location: Can be based either in Auckland/ Wellington
