As a Data Scientist, you’ll be central to shaping and delivering advanced analytics and AI solutions that enhance how services are delivered across the organisation. You’ll collaborate with the whole Data team and BI team to transform concepts into high‑value analytical products, apply best‑practice modelling techniques, and contribute to the development of responsible AI and MLOps practices.

You’ll work closely with the Manager of Business Insights, contributing to a forward‑looking programme designed to upgrade and reinforce Aotearoa’s identity systems while lifting the efficiency of identity‑related services. This is an opportunity to work in a modern data environment, including the new Microsoft Fabric platform, and deliver meaningful, real‑world outcomes for New Zealanders.

You will thrive in this role if you are curious, collaborative, and passionate about applying data science to real‑world problems. You communicate effectively, build strong relationships, and enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment where your work has tangible impact.
To be successful, you will bring:
  • Intermediate to senior level of experience applying data science or AI to business or service delivery problems.
    Strong capability in Python or R, with practical and solid experience building, testing, and refining analytical or machine learning models.
  • Must have background in supporting agile and dynamic business operations
  • Understanding of contemporary cloud-based data platforms, including tools such as Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or Databricks.
  • Demonstrated experience working across the entire modelling workflow from data preparation and feature creation through to version control, retraining, and ongoing performance assessment.
  • Ability to communicate insights clearly and translate complex analytical findings into meaningful, actionable recommendations.
  • A curious, self-driven approach paired with a commitment to delivering solutions that create real value.
  • Flexible, agile and highly adaptable to ever-changing business needs and priorities.
  • Requires New Zealand citizenship due to statutory and security obligations
