CentrePort Wellington is a busy and dynamic port that prides themselves on being innovative, flawless in execution and delivering a high level of service in a co-operative and safe working environment. This is a unique opportunity to join a diverse yet inclusive organisation, as they are currently looking for a talented fitter to join their team. This role will consist of ensuring the mechanical integrity of CentrePort’s assets.

Your New Role

  • Identifying and accurately diagnosing breakdowns associated with mechanical plant
  • Undertaking reactive & preventative maintenance as well as examining parts to detect potential faults
  • Managing your workload & completing tasks in a timely manner
  • Maintaining maintenance schedules & mechanical / crane logs

What you'll need to succeed


  • For Fitters and Welders: a minimum of a National Certificate in Maintenance and Diagnostics in Mechanical Engineering (Level 4), or the National Certificate in Engineering - Heavy (Level 4), or the National Certificate in Engineering Fabrication – Welding (Level 4), or equivalent qualification.
  • For Fitters and Turners: a minimum of a National Certificate in Maintenance and Diagnostics in Mechanical Engineering (Level 4), or the National Certificate in Machining and Tool Making (Level 4), or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to work on a rotating shift schedule and willing to do on-call work
  • Industrial and mechanically minded
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently
  • Rigging experience and Forklift licence are preferred

Please note: CentrePort operates a 24/7 shift rotation and candidates must be able to commit to shift work. Centreport is also an Alcohol and Drug free workplace. Pre-employment medical and drug testing is part of our recruitment process. You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
