Solutions Architecture - Team Lead

Opportunity to manage a large team of Architects for a large government agency in Wellington!

A large government agency, with a sizeable IT team is seeking an Architecture Team-Lead to join their team based in Central Wellington.

Your new role

As the Team Leader Solution Architecture, you will lead a team of contract architects who can deliver high-quality architecture services to the business. You will work with the Manager Solution Architecture to align the architecture practice with the business needs and expectations. You will also ensure effective communication and collaboration between the architects and the business stakeholders and help them find solutions that fit the architecture vision.

You will build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders and users of Architecture services and understand their requirements clearly and accurately. You will work with programme/product teams to ensure that their solutions are consistent with the architecture principles and standards. You will also engage with key external stakeholders to support the Department’s outcomes.

You will manage the supply of contract resources for projects that require them and support the Manager Solution Architecture to plan for current and future resource needs. You will mentor, coach and support your team members to help them perform well and achieve their goals. You will also organise the resources effectively to deliver the agreed services levels.

You will support the Manager Solution Architecture to foster a culture of change readiness and adoption within the team. You will help your team members embrace changes and see them as opportunities for improvement. You will also monitor the impact of changes on the team’s performance and address any issues or challenges that arise.

What you'll need to succeed

  • You have led a high-performing team and motivated them to improve their practice and performance
  • You have demonstrated leadership skills in a service-oriented organisation, dealing with complex and ambiguous situations
  • You have the ability to prioritise your work, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with high quality and accuracy
  • You have worked in complex environments with multiple objectives and clients
  • You have experience in both the project and the solution development lifecycles (functional & non-functional)
  • You have considerable experience in solution/technical architecture, especially in the government sector and/or a service-oriented environment
  • You have a solid understanding of architecture practice, standards and methodologies and how to apply them
  • You have sound knowledge and experience in risk management & mitigation, especially for project and people issues
  • You have a commercial business mindset and approach
  • You are flexible and open to new ideas and activities, and willing to take on new challenges, roles and responsibilities
  • You are financially literate and can interpret financial data related to resource forecasting and utilisation
