Hays partners with IKEA to support their landmark entry into New Zealand

Published: 02 July, 2025

Hays, the global leader in workforce solutions and recruitment, is proud to announce its partnership with IKEA as the Swedish retail giant makes its highly anticipated entry into the New Zealand market. Under this collaboration, Hays will lead the recruitment process for IKEA’s inaugural store, supporting the hiring of Co-worker, Leadership, and Specialist positions.

With recruitment efforts already underway and continuing through 2025, this partnership represents a key milestone for both organisations, ensuring that IKEA’s workforce is well-prepared to support the store’s opening towards the end of the year.

A Strategic Partnership to Build IKEA’s New Zealand Workforce

Hays’ involvement with IKEA in New Zealand began with the successful recruitment of their People & Culture Manager by Hays’ specialist HR recruitment team in Auckland. Following this success, IKEA sought a recruitment partner capable of delivering an extensive and tailored hiring strategy, ultimately selecting Hays as the preferred provider.

“This is an exciting moment for New Zealand,” said David Trollope, Managing Director at Hays New Zealand. “IKEA’s expansion is one of the most high-profile retail developments in the country, and we are thrilled to play a role in bringing their team together. Our priority is to ensure an exceptional recruitment experience, giving candidates a true sense of IKEA’s culture from their first interaction.”

“A job at IKEA is so much more than just a job,” says Lauren Clegg, People and Culture Manager at IKEA Sylvia Park. “Building a diverse team that helps customers create a better everyday life at home starts with finding the right people. That’s why it was so important for us to partner with Hays—they know the local market inside out and truly understand our values-based approach to recruitment. With their expertise, we can connect with talent who share our vision and ensure that every co-worker finds the right role to grow and thrive at IKEA.”

With recruitment efforts ramping up, Hays looks forward to playing a pivotal role in bringing IKEA’s first New Zealand store to life, ensuring the right talent is in place to create an exceptional experience for customers when doors open later this year.
